Are Human Beings Free?

After reading the Charon article I don't think we are as free as we think. Yes we can make our own decisions and become whatever we put our minds to but if we choose something that society, culture is not used to seeing on a daily basis then it is not the right choice. For example in society we are expected to go to college get a degree, start a career, get married, have children and then retire. If a person decides they never want to get married and start a family most people might start to criticize them. People will say something is wrong with him/her maybe they are gay or have a medical condition.So are we free?
